Connecting Your Mac to the Student Housing Network
Please note these instructions will only work on a Mac running OS 10.3 (Panther) or 10.4 (Tiger) and are intended for use in student housing only.
Downloading and Installing the IPFW Security Certificate
Open a web browser and go to http://www.its.ipfw.edu/resources/network/secure.shtml#safari. Follow the instructions listed to download and install the IPFW security certificate.
Creating and Configuring Your Network Connection
- Double-click Macintosh HD (on your desktop)
- Double-click Applications
- Double-click Internet Connect
- Click File > New 802.1X Connection
- Edit the Configuration by clicking the name (in this example, "Other") and choosing Edit Configurations
- Enter the following information:
- Description: IPFW
- Network Port: Built-in Ethernet
- User Name: Your IPFW username
- Password: Your password
- Under Authentication, all but PEAP should be UNchecked
- Select PEAP by clicking it
- Click the Configure button
- Outer Identity: Your IPFW username
- Click the OK button
- Click the OK button on the 802.1X configuration screen once you verify all settings are correct.
- Click the Connect button
- Your status should change from Authenticating to Connected. It may take several minutes to connect.


This will open the Macintosh 802.1X connections window.
