Connecting Your Mac to the Student Housing Network

Please note these instructions will only work on a Mac running OS 10.3 (Panther) or 10.4 (Tiger) and are intended for use in student housing only.

Downloading and Installing the IPFW Security Certificate

Open a web browser and go to http://www.its.ipfw.edu/resources/network/secure.shtml#safari. Follow the instructions listed to download and install the IPFW security certificate.

Creating and Configuring Your Network Connection

  1. Double-click Macintosh HD (on your desktop)
  2. Double-click Applications
  3. Applications Icon

  4. Double-click Internet Connect
  5. Internet Connect Icon

    This will open the Macintosh 802.1X connections window.

  6. Click File > New 802.1X Connection
  7. Edit the Configuration by clicking the name (in this example, "Other") and choosing Edit Configurations
  8. Enter the following information:
    1. Description: IPFW
    2. Network Port: Built-in Ethernet
    3. User Name: Your IPFW username
    4. Password: Your password
  9. Under Authentication, all but PEAP should be UNchecked
  10. Select PEAP by clicking it
  11. Click the Configure button
  12. Connection settings

  13. Outer Identity: Your IPFW username
  14. Click the OK button
  15. TTLS Settings

  16. Click the OK button on the 802.1X configuration screen once you verify all settings are correct.
  17. Click the Connect button
  18. Log into network

  19. Your status should change from Authenticating to Connected. It may take several minutes to connect.
