Creating a Listserv
Any IPFW faculty or staff member can have a listserv created for official academic, research, and/or administrative duties. To have a listserv created, fill out the online listserv request form.
Listservs can be managed via commands sent through email (described below) or through a web interface. Complete documentation for keywords and commands is available from L-Soft's web site.
Setting a Listserv Password
- Go to the web interface and click the Get a LISTSERV password for this server link.
- Enter your IPFW email address and what you want your password to be (twice).
- Click the Register Password button.
- You will receive an email message shortly with a link to confirm your password choice.
- NOTE: Your listserv password is not tied in any way to your IPFW username and password and will never exipre. If you forget your password you can follow these instructions again to set a new password.
Subscribing People to Your Listserv
Via Email Commands
- From the owner's email account, address a message to listserv@listserv.ipfw.edu
- In the body of the message send one line for each person to be subscribed that reads:
ADD nameoflist someone@someplace.com FirstName LastName
Via the Web Interface
- Go to the web interface and log in
- Click Mailing List Management Interface
- Choose your list from the drop down at the top (not necessary if you only own one list)
- Click the Subscribers button
- Under "Add a new user to the list" enter the email address and full name of the person you want to add
- Click the "Add to..." button
Unsubscribing People From Your Listserv
Via Email Commands
- From the owner's email account, address a message to listserv@listserv.ipfw.edu
- In the body of the message send one line for each address to be removed that reads:
DELETE nameoflist someone@someplace.com
Via the Web Interface
- Go to the web interface and log in
- Click Mailing List Management Interface
- Choose your list from the drop down at the top (not necessary if you only own one list)
- Click the Subscribers button
- Under "Examine or delete a subscription" enter the email address or Full Name of the person you want to remove (full name will only work if you have entered the full name for your subscribers)
- Click the "Search in..." button
- When the person is found, click the Delete button
Viewing a Current Subscriber List
This will let you see a list of who is currently subscribed to your listserv.
Via Email Commands
- Address a message to listserv@listserv.ipfw.edu
- In the body of the message send one line for each listserv:
REV nameoflist
Via the Web Interface
- Go to the web interface and log in
- Click Mailing List Management Interface
- Choose your list from the drop down at the top (not necessary if you only own one list)
- Click the Subscribers button
- Under "Review the list membership" click the "in a browser window" link.
- This will display up to 500 names in a new browser window.
Obtaining Common Listserv Commands
- Address a message to listserv@listserv.ipfw.edu
- In the body of the message send one line:
HELP
