CD Burning Station
The Help Desk has a CD-RW drive (CD burner) available for use by faculty, staff and student workers. The drive is available only during business hours on a first-come, first-served basis. The CD burner is installed in the Windows XP scanner station along with another CD drive for copying. Help Desk technicians will provide assistance but will not burn CDs for you.
CD burning software is installed on this station and detailed instructions are available for its use. University employees using the burner must provide their own blank CDs. Blank CDs can be purchased at the bookstore and at most stores where electronics are sold. Blank data CDs (rather than music only CDs) are recommended because they can hold any type of data. High quality discs are recommended to avoid making unreadable discs.
The drive can record at up to 48 speed from the hard drive and up to about 24 speed from another CD, and media should be selected that can tolerate a higher speed than you wish to burn at. Also, because blank CDs come in different capacities, be sure to select discs that are large enough to hold the data you wish to record. CD-RW discs are useful because they can be erased and re-recorded if mistakes are made or data is updated at a later time.
This station may also be used by faculty and staff to check e-mail, scan text and images, and use software applications that are not working on their office PC.
