Introduction to Web Pages at IPFW

Faculty and Staff may use their network accounts (LAN accounts) to create, edit and host Web pages for personal or departmental use.

Creating Web Space

If you would like personal web space, please contact the IT Services Help Desk (260-481-6030 or helpdesk@ipfw.edu) to request that the space be created for you. You will need to provide them with your campus username. Please note that personal web space is not created for generic (student or temp) accounts.

Departments wanting to create Web pages submit the form to request the creation of a departmental web directory. You must also supply up to two usernames that will have exclusive write access to this directory/folder (i.e., departmental webmasters). Send the form to the IT Services Help Desk.

Accessing Your Files

Once created, Windows users will have a P: drive in My Computer where web pages should be saved. Your personal web pages should be saved in p:\users\username\; for example, p:\users\smithj\. Departmental pages should be saved in p:\dept; for example, p:\ath or p:\casa. Macintosh users will have a similar folder inside a Docs folder on the Web3 volume (see Mounting Volumes for Macintosh network users).

Off campus, myIPFW can be used to upload and download your web files. Please consult the myIPFW FAQ for more information on this.

You may also use the FTP program of your choice to upload/download files from an off campus location. This does require some initial configuration to FTP files but once set up, it is easy to use. Novell Netdrive is a particularly handy package to FTP files since it will mimic your on campus drive structure on an off campus computer.
