Virtual Private Networking (VPN)

VPN or "Virtual Private Networking" is a software technology that allows IPFW employees the ability to connect to private on-campus resources from off-site locations. VPN creates a secure "tunnel" for accessing resources and presents the appearance to the user of being on-campus.

VPN setup is simple and only takes a few minutes of your time. Establishing a connection to any IPFW system from off-site without a VPN connection may put data you send to campus systems at risk. All traffic sent by VPN is encrypted across the Internet. Setting up an IPFW VPN connection is recommended for all faculty and staff whom require secure communications for enterprise applications. For those applications using SSL web security, VPN simply complements your web communications with added security.
