LRC PCs for Classroom Use

Mobile Carts are available for any classroom on campus by reservation only.

  • The Learning Resource Center (LRC) makes portable systems available upon advance request to their office (481-6519 or lrcscheduling@ipfw.edu).
  • Please make your request for LRC portable systems at least two working days before you need the computer -- given the growing demand, more advance time might be warranted, especially near the end of semesters.
  • If you want to confirm your request, remember to call Monday through Friday between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 5:00 P.M.
  • These cart-based setups require an activated network drop in the classroom. Although most classrooms have drops, not all have been activated. If the room lacks a drop, it can take as long as 4 weeks to install one.
  • For more information about LRC, visit their Web site at http://www.ipfw.edu/lrc/

Software

  • Booting to Windows XP with no network connection allows access to Microsoft Office XP on the computer's hard drive.

  • All other software applications are accessed by means of an IPFW network connection. These computers commonly attach to the nearest IPFW student lab, so they can access any of the available application software that is currently available from the labs.

  • Instructors are allowed, even encouraged, to load their software on the hard drives for one-time or recurring uses.

  • LRC makes no promise that the machine will be the same one provided for subsequent sessions, or that instructor's self-installed software will remain on that original machine.

  • It is usually best for the instructor to load any often-used software that is not available on our machines or from the labs, on a Zip disk. That Zip disk can be brought to class each session and the application can be launched from the Zip drive.

  • At least once per semester the machine's hard drives will be reformatted, removing softwares other than those mentioned above.

Logging in

  • LOG IN WITH YOUR IPFW USERNAME AND PASSWORD.
    • If you do not have a login, call LRC at 1-6519 for a generic login.

  • IF THE PREVIOUS USER FAILED TO LOG OFF AND THE PC IS LOCKED:
    • You must power off the computer by pressing the POWER BUTTON for at least 8 seconds or until the computer turns off.
    • Wait 4 more seconds, then press the power button again, to reboot the machine.

Before You Leave the Classroom

  • Remove any storage devices or media.
  • Log off, using the Start menu.
