User Technology Support Tech - Student Worker

What is UTS?

User Technology Support (UTS) in IT Services is primarily responsible for the campus training and documentation needs. We offer group and personal training sessions to faculty and staff for many campus software applications and hardware devices. UTS employees work with the ever-changing technology needs of the campus while maintaining a fun and positive work environment.

What are the Job Requirements?

Student workers in UTS must have excellent verbal and written communication skills. Additionally, applicants must be detail-oriented, with the ability to complete work in a timely manner with little supervision.

Training will always be ongoing, but applicants should have strong computer skills which include knowledge of:

  • Windows XP
  • Word processing, spreadsheet, and email packages
  • Web page editing (HTML, Dreamweaver, CSS, etc.)

It is not important for applicants to be "tech-geeks." It is more important that they be able to efficiently and thoroughly learn how something works so they can explain it clearly to others of varying skill levels.

What Would My Responsibilities Be?

We expect our student workers to:

  • Continuously develop technical, personal and interpersonal communication skills
  • Write basic software documentation for the web and print media
  • Proofread documentation and training materials
  • Test software applications
  • Create and update IT Services web pages
  • Participate in tasks and projects as assigned

What are the Hours/Pay Rates?

UTS student workers will be asked to work approximately 20 hours per week during regular business hours--Monday through Friday, 8a-5p. We are flexible about working around your class schedule and other obligations. Starting pay is $10-$12/hour.
